The Gladney Russia program staff was presented with the prospect of bringing older children in Russian orphanages for a cultural camp in 2002. The staff created Bright Futures Camp (BFC) in response as an opportunity for families to host our visitors and introduce them to Texas culture. The first group of 11 children, along with officials and caretakers, arrived in November. The camp structure was well received and Gladney planned subsequent Russia camps for the following years. BFC Russia was held each year from 2002-2005. We are currently planning a TX camp for June 2008.
The Gladney Ethiopia program staff also explored the possibility of planning an Ethiopia BFC in 2006. A group of 13 kids, along with honored guests and Gladney Ethiopia team members, traveled in the summer of 2006 to Long Island, NY for a two week period. In the summer of 2007, 31 children traveled for camps happening simultaneously in Texas and Long Island, NY. We are currently planning a TX camp for August 2008.
The BFC program has grown immensely over time and we fully expect it to continue to develop. We are pursuing other host camp possibilities in other countries and look forward to the expansion of host opportunities for children and families.
